Biography
Nidhie Sharma is an Indian Filmmaker, screenwriter, Bestselling Author and Adventure sportswoman.
She has studied filmmaking and screenwriting from New York University and New York Film Academy. Apart from directing critically acclaimed short films ‘Mask in the Mirror’ and ‘Kids Bank of India’, she has worked on multiple projects in varying roles spanning her career, ranging from producing to co-directing to screenwriting and has also authored two books. The multi faceted storytellers latest outing as a leading screenwriter is on the third season of the International Emmy award nominated Sports drama ‘Inside Edge’ for Amazon Prime video.
In August 2021, Sharma’s non fiction book ‘Invictus- The Jungle that made me’ was published worldwide by Pan Macmillan India. The book is an inspirational she -vs -wild autobiographical account from her own life , of surviving a jungle near the Indo-China border as a thirteen year old Armed forces child. INVICTUS, hailed as a “breathless unsettling adventure”, has been on the Amazon Outdoor survival Bestseller charts at Number 1 from the first day of pre-orders. Her literary debut ‘Dancing with Demons’ is India’s first boxing fiction and slated to become a feature film directed by Nidhie herself.
Nidhie has directed three documentaries for Climate change activist Al Gore’s ‘Current TV’. They are the makers of the Oscar winning Documentary ‘An inconvenient Truth’. Her first short titled ‘Kids Bank of India’ became the most watched short documentary on Current TV (now Al Jazeera)
Her first fiction short directorial ‘Mask in the Mirror’, was about two New York women battling their inner demons. The film was shot in Brooklyn and premiered at the International Women’s film festival. It has been described as ‘thought provoking and beautifully shot’ by Cosmopolitan Magazine.
From New York, Sharma moved to Los Angeles and worked as Associate Producer on an American Indie feature titled ‘You’ directed by Melora Hardin, the director/actor of recent hit Netflix web series ‘The Bold Type’.
Sharma moved to Mumbai next and started to assist National award winning writer-director Sudhir Mishra and worked with him on the comic thriller ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ starring Irrfan Khan and political thriller ‘Aur Devdas’ starring Richa Chadha and Rahul Bhatt.
She parallelly debuted in the literary world with a Boxing novel titled ‘Dancing with Demons’ which was hailed as a ‘visually spectacular debut’ in UK’s Pugilist Magazine; which also acknowledged her for “storming the male bastion of Combat sports storytelling’. The Novel was published by Harlequin imprint of Harper Collins and became a crossword bestseller within weeks of its release.
Sharma has been the Associate director/second unit director on the second season of Action thriller 24, starring Anil Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarathi, Neel Bhoopalam and many other actors. During the course of the marathon 255 day shoot, Nidhie directed vital scenes and sequences with actors Ashish Vidyarthi, Neel Bhoopalam, Sapna Pabbi and many others.
The multifaceted storyteller with an east-west sensibility, who does not conform to gender stereotypes, grew up in an Armed forces environment and has extensively travelled the world. She is passionate about Sports and action storytelling and uses the mediums of Literature and Cinema with equal ease to tell her stories.
Nidhie is a fierce advocate of Gender equality, Wildlife conservation, Climate change and Sports education, specially combat sports.
